Interview with blogger Chloe Samwell-Smith

Chloe Samwell-Smith is the creator of the blog Chloe Loves To Shop, and has a great sense of style.  I came across her on Instagram last year, and she always has the best tips for dressing stylishly, as well as brilliant make-up finds.

I asked her to share her story and some of her style secrets:

How did you get into blogging?

I just decided to give it a go one day after deciding to resign from my job in TV after 17 years. I needed something for ‘me’ and had always loved clothes and fashion, so I thought I would just give it a go and would see where, if anywhere, it took me.

What do you most enjoy about being a blogger?

I love the different doors it opens. No two days are the same and I love that. After doing the same job for 17 years, it is really invigorating to do something creative. I also get to meet so many creative people along the way and can fit it all in around being a full time to my three children.

Who are you inspired by on Instagram?

I’m inspired by Erica Davies (The Edited) and Alex Stedman (The Frugality) but also the thousands of women that I engage with on a daily basis. Every one of them inspires me in a different way. It could be what they’re having for lunch, to something they’ve bought to somewhere they’ve been with their children. Thats what I love about Instagram, I am inspired by the every day lives of the people I follow.

What’s on your shopping Wishlist for 2017?

I am after a black Gucci Marmont Handbag.

I have my eye on a few gorgeous pieces from Hush for SS17 and I would love a new pair of trainers. There’s a great mid range brand called Veja that I have my eye on, but if I had the budget, I would get the Saint Laurent star appliqué trainers… I’m also looking forward to Isabel Marant’s spring delights. I love the more boho, girly looks for summer.

What are your top 3 tips for looking stylish on a budget?

I’ve become a little more discerning as I have got older, and tend to opt for quality over quantity. If this means buying one item in a month instead of 6, then you’ve invested your budget well and can be assured that when you throw those investments together, you will still look stylish. Having said that, I think the High street has some amazing offerings, you just need to be selective and try and avoid the acrylics and polyesters that don’t look great after one wash.

What are your tips for dressing stylishly and remaining practical?

If you’re a mum on the run and trainers and jeans are your default outfit, invest in a special pair of trainers that will make you feel stylish. If it’s a jumper, invest in cashmere which not only looks stylish but keeps you warm.

What’s the most worn item in your wardrobe and why?

My jeans. I can dress them up or down and they always make me feel like ‘me’.
