Davina recently caught up with blogger Vikki Pearson, who is behind the blog Style&Minimalism, to find out more about her style and where she shops:
Tell us a bit about your blog, and how you got into it?
On Style&Minimalism I write about and share my love of well made wardrobe essentials, minimalist interior design, natural and organic skincare, and my travels around the world. My aesthetic is fairly minimal with a Scandinavian influence.
It started when I was working in fashion as a graphic designer and wanted to evolve my personal style whilst also staying in touch with what was going on in the industry. A friend suggested I try blogging so I gave it a go.
Talk us through your style and aesthetic
I think it’s really important to buy good quality essentials that are made with natural materials, and will last. I also like to invest in a few luxury pieces each season. My style is quite timeless, with lots of classic designs in an easy palette of black, white and blue. I’m not trend led and I’m not a fan of fast fashion as it’s not sustainable - it’s not good for the planet or the people that work lower down the chain.
I can usually be found in denim and white trainers, feeling comfortable has always been important to me. My everyday style is definitely smart-casual.
What are the 3 fashion rules you live by?
Invest in good quality classic designs.
Denim goes with everything.
If in doubt, wear black.
Who are you inspired by style-wise?
So many women; Emmanuelle Alt, Aymeline Valade, Elin Kling, Linda Tol, Sarah Harris and Alexandra Carl, to name a few.
Who are your favourite stores/designers right now?
There are a few brands I rely on throughout the year like ME+EM, COS, Isabel Marant Étoile and A.P.C. I’d also like to add some new pieces to my wardrobe from Organic Basics, RE/DONE, Filippa K, ARKET and Everlane this season.
What are your top tips for looking stylish on a budget and what pieces should you invest in?
Buy well rather than buying a lot. It took me a long time to realise this but it does make a huge difference. I now look in my wardrobe and there are pieces from previous seasons that still work today and look as good as the day I bought them. A classic trench coat and a black leather biker jacket will see you through many seasons. I also think it’s worth spending a bit of money on jewellery that you want to wear every day.
What’s the most loved item in your wardrobe and why?
A Sandro black leather jacket that my husband bought me for Christmas a few years ago. It’s a classic design that they bring back every season and I continue to wear every season.
And finally, what are your handbag essentials?
Lip balm (Decléor or True Organic), hand cream (Compagnie de Provence), keys, wallet, (Happy Plugs) earphones and my iPhone; without these I’m lost. I often have my Olympus Pen camera with me, too.
